Thought
for the week: When the referee bites back you are in
for trouble !
Well
after a bad week for England it continued at the
weekend didn’t it with the “egg-chasers” losing out
to those ruddy ‘Boks ! It’s a funny old game !! As
for Lewis Hamilton well, hmmmmmmm ‘nuff said.
A London Intermediate Cup Round 2 result first and
Valley Valiants came a cropper on penalties in the
end, 1-3, to Makeway Eagles after 2-2 at extra time.
In the Senior Division Centaurs had a good win over
Milldean 3-1 and still goalless FOBG unfortunately
found themselves on the wrong side of another
thrashing, this time 0-5 to Eltham Town who really
are going great guns at the moment. Midfield were
humbled by Lessa Albion 2-5 as Lessa take over
2nd
place and
Vista and Catford Cricket Club ground out a 1-1 draw.
So here is the Senior Division top 5 at the moment
Goldsmiths United finally hit the winning button and
beat Centresports 3-2 as the latter seek to rid
themselves of a poor streak at the moment. And so too
the bottom -
Now in the Premier Division AFC Albatross lost out to
Griffin Sports who gain their first points of the
season and leave the “Stormy Petrels” without any at
the bottom. The score was 1-3. FC Bickley had a good
win, 4-1, against Leabridge and Centresports Res
found Keyworth too strong opponents as they went down
1-3. Prince of Wales floundered against EPR and lost
out 1-6.
In Division One Kings Park Rangers were put to the
sword by “The Boys from Brazil” in Bromley Flamengo
as they went down 0-7 and Lessa Albion Res lost out
2-4 to Hatcham who remain anchored in
1st
spot.
And so to Division Two where in my game The Buff took
on Duke ’94. Unfortunately, Duke started the game
with only 9 players as 4 of the team were stuck in a
traffic jam on the M20 and phone calls had to be made
to get people out of bed (from the rugby) and a few
emergency reg’s too. So starting against 9 The Buff
went 2 up within the first 3 minutes with 2 goals
punched into the net by Duke’s stand in goalie.
However, as players arrived and even before they came
on the 9 men bounced back in the
14th
minute.
2-1. Then Duke got up to full strength and I thought
“Yes, game on”. Buff scored a third but one minute
later Duke got another in the 24th
minute
with a superb “own goal” – a great strike – but wrong
net. 3-2. Buff scored another to make it 4-2 on the
half hour and that’s the way it stayed until half
time. After the break Duke struck again and that made
it 4-3. Still intriguing, but with Duke worrying more
about what I was doing than really playing the
football they were doing earlier, the game wallowed a
bit in mid-half. Still, Buff scored again in the
75th
minute
and then wrapped it up in the 87th
minute to
finish 6-3. A good game but a little too chatty for
my liking – and as you know for someone who “rabbits”
like me you know that is unusual for me too say. It
was great to see Matt Arnold again although he is
still encased in metal after that bad break in the
final last year – still as keen as mustard though –
good on yer Matt !!
In the other match The Wood took on VN and lost 2-5.
So to Div Three and EPR Res waltzed past Eltham Town
‘A’ 8-0 and not to be outdone Ex Blues stuffed 8 past
VS Bexley with no reply – luckily “Suntan” Mark
Freeman wasn’t in goal so his back was spared this
week. The Blues could’nt summon up so much strength
and only managed 2 against London City to end up 0-2.
Division Four now and Dartford won 4-0 against Euro
United whilst Orpington Rovers kept the winning habit
going with a 2-1 against Cricketers. Wickham Park
know how it is to be stung as they went down 0-3
against FC Wasps.
Now in the Fifth Division Bromley Eagles lost out to
Paul Birch Res 0-3 and Cudham United Res decided to
draw in a mid table clash with Starks Park Rovers
3-3. Rohan and EPR ‘A’ also decoded that the same
scoreline was sufficient.
The
romance of the Cup was present for at least 11 sides
today as hey progressed to the Second Round of the
Charity Cup. Eltham Town Res beat COBS 7-4 and Copers
Cope who now seem to be a cup team only won 0-5
against Fairfield Res. Fairfield lost out to Otford
Colts 2-4 after 1-1 at full time and The Flames
eventually beat Shortlands Athletic 5-4 after 3-3 at
the full – second week running of heartbreak for
Shortlands – hard luck lads. Freelands couldn’t stop
Lessa Albion ‘A’ and lost 1-4 whilst AFC Lessa
Christchurch lost to Valley Valiants Res closely 2-3.
Despite goals from Vincent and 2 from White, Lombard
Phoenix Res were overturned 3-5 by Coney Hall. The
first team faired little better as Eltham Progress
Res rose above themselves and beat Lombard Phoenix
2-3 despite goals from Fletcher and A. “Jack” Frost
for Phoenix. Midway Res lost 0-2 to Ex Blues Res and
SE Twente continued a miserable season with a 3-5
defeat by EC United. Finally, Swanley Cardinals lost
at home to Eltham Progress 0-4.
See you all next week.
Bob.
