Hi everyone and welcome to a new season of the “View”
………….. the weekly round up of results from the OBDSFL
by an unofficial source !
For the new clubs joining a big welcome from everyone
to the best Sunday League in London and Kent – I mean
we do defy anyone to prove to us all that their
league is better – well that’s why we all stay with
OBDSFL isn’t it.
Okay let’s go one better the best Sunday League in
the UK – mmmmm sounds good.
So for the new clubs what is the purpose of this,
well quite simply I try
to
deliver to your desktop by Monday morning a quick
round up of the league results (yes you can get them
from (www.obdsfl.com)
but my version is funnier) – as the old clubs know
they all get the fun poked at them from time to time
and the games I “do” benefit from a little write up.
In fact some people even drop me a few lines to
include on the Sunday afternoon for their games so if
you want to please feel free. No here is the bit you
need to note………………….
1. If you
wish to use “Bob’s View” on your own club website, in
full or part, do please ask and don’t just copy and
paste – I just like to know who is reproducing this
elsewhere and please don’t alter what I have written.
Permission to use this is never denied unless I know
it will be for the detriment of others.
2. Everyone gets a mention, I don’t follow either
success or failure and I certainly do not favour any
except perhaps Starks Park Rovers in the
5th
division
but the club think I take pity on them (sorry Nigel).
3. At the halfway point I make the infamous “Bob’s
Predictions” as to what might happen silverware wise
at the end of the season – last year I was reasonably
accurate – must have been the threat of financial
penalty if I got less that a certain %age. This has
also been a harbinger of doom for some teams who have
come to curse my glowing prediction as their season
falls apart.
4. This weekly news sheet is also in no way connected
with the league – if you go to the Committee with
“Bob said…………..” they will just laugh so please treat
my weekly comment/predictions reports as just the bit
of fun they are intended to be. Thanks for that.
5. If you do not wish to receive this then just drop
me an email and I will delete you.
Now a bit of footy reporting. The other Sunday I was
down at Powerleague in Catford and we had a game with
the proverbial “jumpers for goal posts” as it turned
out that the pitch where friendly between The Buff
and Midway was had been “double booked” on poor old
Dave Jonas. So we had a kick about instead and Buff
won 5-2 in the end. As for the grass well it was so
long it looked like waves at Brighton when the wind
blew !! Hope it gets cut before the season starts
Dave. Highlight of the game was the old wily Midway
centre back who, on being caught out of position on a
throw in half way into his half, shouts to the
thrower, literally as he had finished his run to
throw the ball in “Hold On”. The thrower stops, the
centre back runs into his correct position and shouts
out “You can carry on now” !!!!!! Laugh – I almost
cried – the poor lad was gobsmacked as everyone broke
into laughter.
So to everyone, have a good season and let’s see what
happens eh .
9th
Sept.
Just a
couple of games today with the first silverware of
the season going to Centresports who beat Catford
Cricket Club 4-3 in the Ted Connor Charity Shield
(wonder how Catford will get on this season in the
Senior Division). Looked like a close game.
In the Preliminary Round of the Jack Standen Cup
Coney Hall beat newcomers The Wood 5-4.
Next week we have the real start of the season.
16th
Sept.
So at
long last after the end of season break and all those
“friendlies” (why do we call them that they never are
anymore !) we are finally at kick off.
In the Senior Division Mark and Angela Morgan’s
Centresports carried on from last weeks fine efforts
with a 6-0 thrashing of FOBG. Poor old FOBG. Newly
promoted Catford CC recovered from last weeks Charity
Shield setback with a sparkling 4-1 win over Centaurs
who were also promoted with them. Rootsy’s (Is he
back ??) Defiance beat Jeff and Dave’s Goldsmiths
United 5-3 in what seemed a thrilling game. Do we
fancy Defiance as a challenger to the Senior Div
crown this year ? Lets watch. Lessa Albion went
across the road and had a 1-1 draw with local rivals
Eltham Town whilst Vista started slow with a 1-0 win
over Milldean.
To the Premier Div where AFC Albatross met “Golden
Ronnies” Prince of Wales and went down 0-3. Enough
players this year then Ron ?? EPR lost out narrowly
to newly promoted Centresports Res 0-1. Midway and
promoted Leabridge had an exciting 3-3 draw whilst
Paul Birch trounced hapless Griffin Sports 9-1 – any
chance of that result in the Standard then Leo ??
Valley Valiants entertained Keyworth but found the
visitors in good form as they ran out winners 2-5.
In the First Division Bromley Flamengo halted Coney
Hall 3-2 and Chelsfield OB’s and Eltham Progress had
a high scoring draw ending up 4-4 – interesting times
ahead then Pete and Jacky !! Kings Park Rangers found
Otford Colts in good shape as they lost out 2-5 but
Lessa Albion Res turned in a good performance to beat
Cudham United 2-1.
The Second Division saw The Buff win 31- against
Fairfield (hope they have cut the grass Dave!!) and
Eltham Town Res crushed Duke ‘94 8-1. Lombard
Phoenix, not to be outdone, thumped Bromley Common
7-2. SE Twente were at home to new boys VN and went
down 0-3.
The Third Division next and Copers Cope started where
they left off last season with a 1-2 defeat this time
to EC United. I expect they will be hoping for good
cup form to boost league disappointment again. Eltham
Town ‘A’ and “Golden Boy” Mark Freeman’s V S Bexley
(I still prefer Viking Strollers lads) ground out a
0-0. Local derby between Ex Blues and The Blues saw
the latter nick it 0-1 and London City started this
season in good form with a 3-0 win over The Flames.
Swanley Cardinals had a tough time at home and lost
out narrowly 1-2 to EPR Res.
In the 4th
Div
Beckenham Imps and Ex Blues Res drew 2-2 and
Cricketers beat North Kent Rangers 3-2. Euro Utd were
busy in their game against Midway Res and walked away
with all 3 points 3-2 in the end. In my game
Orpington Rovers were looking good after a half time
lead of 0-1 at FC Wasps whose sting looked a bit of a
damp squib. However, Rovers poor marking on an
undangerous indirect free kick allowed the Wasps
striker to slide in unmarked early in the second half
to equalise whilst the defenders all looked on.
Shortly after Wasps struck again as a switch of a
defender to play as a striker in the second half paid
off as the defence held off long enough for him to
hit a hopeful strike which went through a group of
players and left the unsighted keeper diving
helplessly for 2-1. 2 shots, 2 goals and Rovers were
left rueing what went wrong ! New boys Wickham Park
took on last years Div 5 winners in Dartford and went
down 0-4.
Finally the Fifth Div where Bromley Eagles and
Crayside Colts drummed out a 1-1 draw and Cudham
United Res and AFC Lessa Christchurch also did the
same except it was 2-2. Eltham Progress Res announced
their arrival in the 5th
with a
5-2 win over Lombard Phoenix Res another new team.
Fairfield Res met Rohan and went down 1-4 and Paul
Birch Res lost out to EPR ‘A’ 2-5. Shortlands
Athletic came across Nigels Starks Park Rovers and
beat them 4-1 – any idea on final League position
this year Nigel ……………… ?
Even at this early stage there was County Cup action
with Masters, Orchard, Lessa Albion ‘A’ and The Wood
all comfortably going through in the Kent Cup. In the
London Junior Cup Valley Valiant Res decided to make
a meal of it against FC Bickley Res and were 3-3
after 90 mins, 4-4 after extra time and finally won
4-3 on penalties – phew and it’s only the first week
!!!!!
See you all next week.
Bob.
