Thought
for the week: If your eggs are scrambled does that
mean your team is no good ?
So here
we are with another week of “The View”.
It was the start of the long haul in the Charity Cup
to Bromley this week for a few teams as the
Preliminary Round commenced where Bromley Common came
unstuck after last weeks triumph as EC United ran out
winners 3-6. Copers Cope who have a good cup pedigree
of late beat “Sunshine” Mark Freeman’s VS Bexley 6-2
and Cudham United lost out narrowly to Lessa Albion
Res, 3-4. Dartford were comfortable winners in the
end against Cricketers 2-0 and EPR ‘A’ went down at
home 1-3 to Shortlands Athletic. New side Eltham
Progress Res won 3-2 against Wickham Park to progress
as did Ex Blues who thumped Crayside Colts 6-0.
Fairfield had the better of The Blues 3-1 and
Freelands glided effortlessly past Rohan 5-2.
Lessa Albion ‘A’ beat Bromley Eagles 4-1 and goals
from Lightfoot, Enoch and Plummer saw Lombard Phoenix
Res draw 3-3 aet, after 2-2 on the full with a 5-4
after pens. Lombard Phoenix had goals from Fletcher,
Cele and Beaumont as they eased themselves into the
next round 3-1 over Bromley Flamengo – no Brazilian
magic there then Will ?? In my game Masters came up
against a determined and physical Swanley Cardinals
and ran out the losers as their season starts to go
flat. Good chasing and movement kept Cardinals on top
but they seemed intent on collecting yellow cards
today ! A well worked goal on 15 mins saw them go
ahead and Masters struggled to have any reasonable
shot on goal. However up till that point the best
move of the game on 41 mins brought the equaliser.
Poor Darren Parkins had a bit of a ‘mare in the
Masters goal as goals in the 54, 59 and
65th
minute
saw Cardinals run out worthy winners with Masters
losing a player to a silly 2nd
caution
in the closing minutes. So 1-4 in the end. Room for
thought for both teams I would say.
Midway Res had a good game with Kings Park Ranger and
eventually ran out winners 4-2 aet, and 2-2 on the
full. My spies were out at Orchard v North Kent
Rangers and reports – “After a late make shift team
shuffle Orchard came out very slow with little
chances, on 5 minutes a curling free kick from Daniel
Griffiths on the edge of the area hit the cross bar,
then nothing much happened until 25 minutes when a
long cross field pass from Darren Poet found Michael
Smalls who neatly took it round the North Kent
Rangers keeper and slotted home for 1 -0. Half time
it went a disappointing 1-0.
Five minutes after the
restart a pinpoint pass from Michael Eldridge found
the boots of Smalls who again took it round the
keeper and punished the back of the net to make it
2-0. On 57 minutes Smalls dribbled the ball into the
NKR area and hit the bar but was then brought down in
the area. He slotted in his second hat trick of the
season to make it 3-0. On 60 minutes a booking for
Chris ended in him being subbed for Ricky Rice, an
excellent debut for Ricky with a rocket left foot
into the roof of the net on 75 minutes made it 4-0.
On 83 minutes Darren Gilmartin came off to let
Anthony on. After 85 minutes the Orchard defence
fell asleep to let in NKR to upset the goalkeepers
clean sheet, with a final score being a comfortable
4-1.
Otford Colts won 3-1 over London City and Paul Birch
Res lost out to Eltham Progress 0-2. The final game
saw The Wood beat Beckenham Imps 1-0
Turning now to the league games and in the Senior
Div, Catford CC beat FOBG 5-0 – FOBG are having a
woeful start to the season it seems. Centresports
decided to get their hiccups out of the way early as
they went down 2-3 to Eltham Town and Goldsmith
United had a low scoring win, 1-0, over Centaurs.
Lessa Albion had a close win over Milldean 1-0 and
Midfield and Defiance shared the honours 1-1. I saw
these 2 goals during the half time interval in my
game at HSBC. Nicely taken both of them – looked a
hard game though.
In the First Div Chelsfield OB’s are still seeking to
impress Pete Small as they lost 2-4 to Coney Hall.
In the Second Division Eltham Town Res lost out
closely to Valley Valiants Res 1-2
And finally the Fifth Div where Fairfield Res beat
AFC Lessa Christchurch 4-1.
Thanks for your time, see you all next week.
Bob.
